AofA's Hot To Trot Talking Points
Every Friday
Well this week, it’s got to be the Awards and more Awards’ stories. So much was crammed into those two hours that it’s so important to give them a bit more space. The winners, that is, who could be representing an organisation or themselves. Above in this photo by Mish Aminoff Moon is
(in the middle with the marvellous pink fake fur hat) who wrote and performed the song We Celebrate You especially for the awards. And in the background is Mish’s exhibition That’s The Spirit with photographs of older people who are emanating spiritedness!! Yes to that.

2. Our winner in the Pro-Ageing Category was Hourglass - ‘One in six older people are victims of abuse. That’s over 16% of our mothers, fathers, uncles, aunties, grannies, grandads, friends and neighbours.
The Hourglass mission is simple: end the harm, abuse and exploitation of older people in the UK.
We have over 30 years’ experience as Action on Elder Abuse and over that time our work has touched tens of thousands of people, it’s shaped government policy and amplified the issue in national press. That’s why Hourglass is so vital.
As the UK’s only charity focused on the abuse and neglect of older people, we staff a
free-to-call 24/7 helpline. It’s an absolute lifeline for older men, women and their families suffering from the six forms of abuse: Domestic, Physical, Psychological, Economic, Sexual and Neglect.’Maggie Evans, the Director of Frontline Services at Hourglass picked up the award which was presented by Tony Burch, chair of Age UK London. Afterwards I went to thank Maggie for coming along and she made it clear how much it helps to give Hourglass some visibility. Really want to do that. Vital work.
This was one of the best group photos by Ben Cornish, our juggler for the night and a member of AofA. We always say that we can mix the flamboyant and the serious and this is a fantastic photo of on the left Marisa Mendez who was joint winner of the Style Queen Award, in the middle at the back
, co-founder of AofA, right at the back, Aless Bester who was joint winner of the Style Queen Award and the effescent Helene Korr who was a finalist in the Style Queen Award.
This is a photo taken by Ben Cornish of
in rehearsal at Hoxton Hall last week. Her performance was so graceful and so beautiful and then there was an accident where Nikki fell off the stage which is very high. We are all thinking of her and wishing her a nurtured recovery.
What a photo by Richard Kaby of the utterly punkish and charming juggler, Ben Cornish. He enchanted us and made us laugh. Look at Suzanne! And there were some interesting juggling terminology - the snatch and grab, the reverse cascade. Oh that Ben has 35 years experience! Book him for your celebration!
